The Level 3 Award in Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder Awareness is ideally suited for individuals wanting to improve their understanding of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) for professional development.

It will be particularly relevant for professionals or individuals either working with or supporting individuals and families affected by ADHD, or for individuals who would like to start a career supporting those with ADHD. Following successful completion of this course, professionals working in an educational setting can progress onto the ADHD in Education Level 3 which provides more practical-based learning on how to support learners with ADHD.

This ADHD Awareness level 3 course covers the characteristics, causes, treatments and assessment methods as well as ways to support individuals with ADHD and sources of further relevant information.

Course aims and objectives

What is meant by ADHD and how it is distinguished from other neurodevelopmental disorders?

What are the characteristics of ADHD and the common co-morbid difficulties that can be experienced by individuals with ADHD?

The different theories relating to the causes of ADHD, how behavioural therapy and medication can be used to treat ADHD, and the common side effects of medication.

Evaluating the different methods used to assess ADHD; outlining key differences between them.

Analysing the possible physical, social, emotional and behavioural effects of ADHD on an individual.

Evaluating the impact of ADHD on an individual’s ability to participate and function in everyday activities and to engage in learning.

Evaluating different learning support strategies, which can be used to motivate individuals with ADHD, including ways to adapt teaching and education resources and the learning environment.

Explaining different approaches to encourage positive learning behaviour in individuals with ADHD and state why it is important to select and apply different strategies for different individuals.

The different sources for and types of support available to individuals with ADHD, their families and those supporting their learning.

Where do I go for my lessons?

We use a well-known platform called CourseSites by Blackboard. The advantage of using this platform is that it is accessible everywhere!

All your lessons are live with your tutor and there is the option of day or evening classes. You can log in any time and access your course resources, and you can also meet other students in the classroom for extra study time if and when you feel you would like to. A microphone is not required for the course.

How is the course delivered?

Our courses are delivered through a virtual classroom that is powered by Blackboard.

You may have had a lesson this way before at college or university?

We will send you your own log-in before the course starts and you will be required to log-into the classroom where your tutor will be there ready deliver your lesson (see dates and times). The great thing is that the lesson is live and not recorded so you can ask as many questions as you like! Your tutor will deliver your lessons (you will need a laptop or PC with headphones), talking you through the course. Your tutor may use visuals including power point presentations. Each week you will be set coursework based on your lesson that will contribute towards your final portfolio.
