This Level 3 Award in Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder Awareness (QCF) is suitable for those want to improve their understanding of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), whether for professional or personal reasons.
It will be particularly relevant for teachers, teaching assistants and learning support staff who have currently have only a limited knowledge of ADHD or those individuals that would like to start a career in an educational setting supporting those with ADHD. You can progress onto the ADHD in Education Level 3 (supporting element)
The qualification contains one mandatory unit which covers characteristics, causes, treatments and assessment methods as well as ways to support individuals with ADHD and sources of further relevant information.
What is meant by ‘attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)’ and how it is distinguished from other behavioural disorders, the characteristic features of ADHD and the common co-occurring difficulties that can be experienced by individuals with ADHD.
The different theories relating to the causes of ADHD and how behavioural therapy and medication can be used to treat ADHD, and the common side effects of medication used to treat ADHD.
Evaluating the different methods used to assess ADHD, outlining key differences between them. Analysing the possible physical, social, emotional and behavioural effects of ADHD on an individual.
Evaluating the impact of ADHD on an individual’s ability to participate and function in everyday activities and to engage in learning.
Evaluating different learning support strategies, which can be used to motivate individuals with ADHD, including ways to adapt teaching and learning resources and the learning environment.
Explaining different approaches to encouraging positive learning behaviour in individuals with ADHD, state why it is important to select and apply different strategies for different individuals.
Summarising the different sources and types of support available to individuals with ADHD, their families and those supporting their learning.

We will send you your own log in before the course starts and you will be required to log in to the classroom where your tutor will be there ready to teach (see dates & times). The great thing is that the lesson is live and not recorded so you can ask as many questions as you would like! Your tutor will deliver your lessons (you will need a laptop or PC with headphones), talking you through the course. You tutor may use visuals too like a powerpoint or flip chart giving you your lesson. Each week you will be set coursework based on your lesson.
