What Is Access to Work?

 

Access to Work is a UK Government grant scheme that helps people with disabilities or long-term health conditions (including ADHD and autism) to start or stay in work. It can fund a wide range of support, such as coaching, specialist equipment, travel costs, or mental health support.

Our Access to Work Coaching Process

Observation

In the first stage, our practitioner completes an observational assessment. We look at how you move, how you pay attention, your body language, and behaviours like fidgeting or foot tapping. This gives us a fuller picture of how ADHD or autism might be affecting you at work. These insights help us create a detailed coaching plan based on real-life challenges and strengths.

Motivational Interview

Coaching is a commitment from both you and us. In your first session, we explore your motivation: how ready you are to understand your neurodivergence, what kind of work you’re willing to invest in, and how you want to grow. If you feel ready, we will move into the full coaching programme.

Employment Coaching Sessions

Our coaching is tailored for adults with ADHD or ASD who are struggling in the workplace. We draw on the information from your diagnosis, observation, and assessments to design strategies that suit you. Each session addresses what works, what doesn’t, and how to build on your strengths.

What We Cover in Coaching

Understanding ADHD & ASD

We help you gain a clear, compassionate understanding of your neurodivergence  how it affects your emotions, behaviour, attention, and working style. We also explore how these traits can be a strength when understood properly.

Lifestyle & Balance

We work together to identify areas of your life that may be contributing to stress or instability and help you build a more balanced routine that supports your emotional well-being and productivity.

Identifying Strengths

Based on your assessment, we help you identify and build on your strengths so you can confidently navigate workplace challenges. We also help you communicate these strengths to colleagues and managers.

Emotion Awareness & Regulation

Emotions are powerful, especially in neurodivergent brains. We explore how your emotions connect to your ADHD or ASD and create strategies for recognising triggers and managing your responses effectively.

Goal Setting

Together, we develop a “Success Plan” with SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-bound) goals tailored to your work context. We review these in coaching sessions to track progress and adjust as needed.

Recommended Coaching Schedule

Weekly coaching for the first 6 weeks

Then once every two weeks for 2 sessions

Follow-up with monthly check-ins to support the Success Plan, over a further three months

How Access to Work Links Into This

If you’re eligible for Access to Work, you may be able to claim our neurodiversity coaching (or “job coach” support) through the scheme.

Once approved, Access to Work may reimburse coaching costs, making our support more affordable. GOV.UK+1
